This archived database reports the average annual number of jobs, full-time plus part-time based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. Each job that a person holds is counted at full weight. The estimates are largely by place of work. 

  • The estimates of employment for 1969-74 based on 1967 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC). The estimates for 1975-87 are based on the 1972 SIC. The estimates for 1988-98 are based on the 1987 SIC.
  • Nonfarm proprietors employment excludes limited partners.
