| Additional Background | This database contains Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for all U.S. states and territories from 1990 to the present. Data are available by gas and source or by IPCC sector. (Sectors include energy, industrial processes and product use, agriculture, waste; data are also provided for Land Use, Land Use Change, and Forestry, i.e., LULUCF emissions and sinks.). Emissions are reported in million metric tons; per capita emissions are reported in metric tons. Note that these values may differ from those produced independently by states and territories.

Modern Language Association (MLA) format or style is most commonly used for footnotes in the language arts, cultural studies, liberal arts, and humanities. MLA uses short parenthetical citations within the text that are linked to an alphabetical list of work cited at the end of the document. American Medical Association (AMA) format or style is most commonly used for footnotes in medicine, biomedical research, nursing, dentistry, and other life sciences. AMA uses numerical superscript for citing sources in-text and refers to a list at the end of the work.
